Perhaps we need to add a new level of service. Sometimes our German clients ask for a “quick and dirty” edit. It’s a term used in industry to describe an analysis that does not go into too much detail but gets over the main points of an issue. A “quick and dirty edit” means a single pass, but when done by a good editor is quite enough for conference papers, internal reports, or to get a paper into shape for a review with a supervisor. We only offer the service on request but perhaps we should promote it as we could offer it for 30% less than our standard service.
If we decide to promote a quick and dirty edit, what should we call the service? Our ‘standard’ level edit involves two editors and a consistency check by the Managing Editor, but we can’t call a single editor check a “sub-standard” edit! Perhaps we’ll need to rebrand the service as Bronze, Silver and Gold levels?
